One Step
Contact
Purpose:
To teach proper footwork on approach to contact
fit and proper punch
on contact.
Equipment:
Hand shields can be used but are not necessary.
Procedure:
Form three lines with the first line walked out
and
facing line two. Put
line two into a perfect fit position with line
one and have him take one
step back. On command line two takes
its step to re-fit,
makes contact, and throws the punch into line
one, and the stops in the
contact position.
Coaching
Point: Watch feet to ensure that
the athlete does
not over stride. 6-8
power step. Emphasize leading with chest
over knees. Everything
must strike simultaneously. Nose and
hands must make contact at
the same time as the second step hits the
ground. Aiming points must be used.
