LIGHTNING 14U BLACK WINS STATE TITLE
The Lightning 14U Black girls fastpitch team took 1st place in the Wisconsin State ASA Class “A” Tournament this past weekend (July 11-13) at Riverside Park in Watertown, WI. The Lightning went 8-1 in the double elimination tournament extending their record to 40-3 for the year.In the first game, the Lightning beat Kenosha Cyclones 13U 7-2 behind pitcher Bekah Shellberg’s 2-hit, 10 strikeout performance on Friday night.2nd game, Lightning lost to the Kenosha Cyclones 1-0 in 9 innings. The Cyclones received strong pitching from Emily McClelland, the Lightning from Kristen Wood. This knocked the Lightning into the loser’s bracket on Saturday.

3rd game, Lightning beat the Union Grove Shockers Red 4-0 behind Shellberg’s 1-hit shutout on Saturday.

4th game, Ligthning beat the Union Grove Shockers White 14-0 behind Nica Ware’s no hitter late Saturday night.Sunday July 13th5th game, Lightning beat the Howard Heat 4-1behind strong pitching from Kristen Wood (11 strikeouts).6th game, Lightning beat the Kenosha Cyclones 3-0 behind Shellberg’s pitching and RBI’s from Shellberg, Randi Rederer and Kristen Wood.7th game, Lightning beat the WI Rebels (Mauston, WI) 8-1 behind Kristen Wood’s 2-hit 12 strikeout performance.8th game, 1st Championship gameLightning came alive offensively and beat the Racine Belles 7-0. Hayden Krueger, Randi Rederer, Bekah Shellberg and Kelsey Saucerman had multiple hits in the game. Shellberg got the complete game shutout.9th CHAMPIONSHIP GAMELightning scored 4 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Belles.  Nica Ware collected 3 hits, with Hayden Krueger, Randi Rederer, Lexi Hermes, Kristen Wood, Bekah Shellberg each with 2 hits. Shellberg got the Championship victory.With this victory the Lightning received an automatic bid to ASA “A” Northern Nationals in St. Louis July 30th-Aug. 3rd.

The Lightning 10U Black Fastpitch Softball team took 2nd Place at the 2008 ASA Class B State Championships held July 11, 2008 through July 13, 2008 in Combined Locks, Wisconsin.  The 10U team went 6-2 for the weekend falling to the Oshkosh Raiders, 8-1 in the Championship game.  The team defeated the Stateline Stars 15-1 and the Fox River Rush 3-2 in pool play.  In the first game of bracket play on Friday night, Lightning struck the LaCrosse Shelby HSR 4-1.  In Saturday bracket play, Lightning came out strong against the Fox River Rush with an 11-5 win and the Kenosha Cyclones could not defeat the mighty Lightning giving up a one-run lead with Lightning on top, 4-1.  On Saturday night, one game away from the Championship game, the 10U team was defeated 5-3 by the Oshkosh Raiders in a tough inning-to-inning battle.  On Sunday morning, the Lightning rallied against the Kaukana Ghosts to tie the game 3-3 after seven innings and pulled ahead after two international tiebreaker innings defeating the Ghosts 10-6 advancing to the Championship game.  The Oshkosh Raiders came out strong and the Lightning struck with all their might but could not defeat the Raiders, taking second after an 8-1 Raiders victory.  The Lightning 10U Black team plays the Warren Wipeout tournament July 25, 2008 through July 27, 2008 and wraps up their season at the ASA Class B Northern Nationals to be held July 31, 2008 through August 3, 2008 in Rochester, Minnesota.

We need to get MUCH more work in to be competitive, but a good time was had by all.
The girls saw how ball is supposed to be played.
The weather didn't really hamper anything as the ground crew kept the fields in great shape.
Very nice and gracious personnel were at the locations we played. The volunteers were super !

You have very nice program. I thought the umpiring was one of the best that we have seen in a long while...Very good to work with and explained there reasoning.
