WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE WATERTOWN WRESTLING BOOSTER CLUB?

The Watertown Wrestling Booster Club youth wrestling program has been set up to help promote, support, and build on our great wrestling tradition here in Watertown. The Club will provide each kid with a singlet and headgear at sign-ups. A deposit check is required for the equipment, which is held and then returned when the Club receives the equipment back at the end of the season. We also have some selections of used shoes for sale. The Club membership fees are used for buying equipment for all ages of kids in wrestling. Monies also go back to the families who send kids to wrestling camps, up to $150 per kid; also we help individuals who earn high honors, such as a trip to the Disney Duals or Junior Nationals, & the expenses that go along with that. All monies that are brought in are used to support our wrestling program as a whole.

In a nutshell…

Family membership: $50

What you get?:

1)   Use of a singlet & headgear for your wrestler(s).

2)   Practices scheduled approximately 2 times a week from January through March.

3)   Camp benefit of up to $150/yr. per wrestler (Club pays ½ camp fee up to $150/yr).

4)   Wrestler registration fee paid for all WWBC hosted tournaments.

5)   ½ price WWBC clothing item per wrestler (optional of course).

6)   ½ AAU card fee paid (original price of card is $14-$20, AAU card is mandatory for insurance purposes).

OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:

THE BEST WAY TO STAY INFORMED: This website! Check the Club News section often to stay up to date. We also send out email reminders occasionally, so if you provide us with an email address, that will help tremendously.

TOURNAMENTS: There are wrestling tournaments all winter, beginning in January through early April. The tournaments are usually individual, but there are a few team tournaments we like to attend, including our own Young Arrow Dual Tournament. There are tournaments all over the area and you can attend as many as you want - it’s up to you how much traveling you want to do. See the South Dakota Youth Wrestling Website on the Internet for the complete regional tournament schedule and other wrestling information.

MEETINGS: The WWBC has monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm at the Grainery Restaurant. Meetings are held regularly Octbober through April & on an as needed basis in the off season. Meeting are always announced on the website.

Sign-ups - To be announced.

Practices – Practices are 2 to 3 times a week beginning the first week of January until the end of March. Beginners will practice 6:00-6:40p.m., intermediate wrestlers from 6:45-7:30 and advanced wrestlers 7:35 - 8:30 p.m. The practice schedule will be available at sign-ups.

THE MOST IMPORTANT BENEFITS: We believe parents find wrestling to be a very rewarding sport that has a place for all types of kids, big and small. Your son will learn more than just wrestling techniques in wrestling; wrestling will expose your kids to highs and lows like no other sport. It's not just winning and losing. Wrestling builds strength in character and humility. Kids will learn to handle adversity and think under pressure, both very important life lessons. The most important thing that wrestling teaches is sportsmanship.
